Gordon, Thompson capture Matlack Awards
Alex Gordon was named the Hodges League Jon Matlack Award winner today. Brooklyn's third baseman put up pretty good numbers for a rookie this year. This 23 year old kid will probably have a long and successful career! While compiling an on base percentage of .376, Alex hit .287 and slugged .537. He has collected 89 runs batted in this year.
Meanwhile, Cincinnati's Craig Thompson smiled as he was named the Johnson League Jon Matlack Award winner. His season features a batting average of .419 (269 hits in 642 AB), 12 doubles, 4 triples and 8 taters. Thompson collected 93 RBI and 88 runs as well. He finished first in the Johnson League in batting!
